Rozan Ali is a Banaras tabla maker who trained as a sarangi player in his youth. We have been friends since the '70s. He taught me how to stretch the skin on a sarangi. In 1995, he took me to Mirzapur in Bihar where I met his sarangi-playing elder brother Maqbul Khan and witnessed a superb mujhra with the tavayaf Rani Singh.
