Mohammed Jan was an extremely knowledgeable elderly sarangi player who befriended me in Delhi in the late '70s when I was living there learning from Dilip Chandra Vedi and the younger Dagar Brothers. He was the senior accompanist at the Kathak Kendra, Biriju Maharaj's right-hand man, and I was living on Sikandra Road—a short walk from the Mandi House crossing. So he used to come over after work and hang out, play sarangi and sometimes teach me songs.
