Fakhruddin Khan was a student of Abdul Latif Khan, sent to train in Bhopal by his father, the well-known harmonium player Mehmood Dholpuri of Dholpur. He was a sweet and friendly boy and was enthusiastic about sarangi and practice. But he wasn't bursting with talent and suffered derision by ALK and his other students. He was known as "Gopa" (cowherd) around the house. I heard that he died young. Rest in peace.
We have one video filmed in his house in Dholpur, Rajasthan. He plays something unrecognisable. Then we discussed his sarangis. I am looking at an old sarangi on the floor that belonged to Babu Khan the father of Fakhruddin's maternal grandfather, the tabla player Inayat Khan. The sarang he is playing belonged to his paternal grandfather, Budhe Khan Dlolpuri. Then he played some tans in Bhairav. Then he was distracted by his parrot. I'm not sure why I labelled the video "Shuddh Sarang"! Apologies!
